It's a strange balance the adoration and subjegation of women throughout history. Renaissance paintings overflow with the bounty of beautiful bodies, and yet in that time, women were still chatel. A Midsummer Night's Dream is a charming tale, full of beauty & humor, but ultimately Oberon punishes his wife for disobedience by drugging her, so he can get his way. The floral motifs are a gentle nod to a favorite painter of mine, Botticelli. You will see them represented in Birth of Venus and Primavera.
